Christie has played South America more
often than any other continent, having been there on at least
seven separate tours. Their following was so huge they were often
given presidential treatment in the countries they visited, including
military salutes and police escorts. Invariably, there would be
thousands of fans waiting to greet them at airports.
In
Argntina, they even had their own TV show, complete with dancing
girls and the obligatory comic comperes, called Matinee.
The band's last tour before they broke
up was in South America and even with a different line-up,
the shows were sold out.
Many
South American fans still have
fond memories of the visits by Christie.
