Yellow
River/San Bernadino (live at Sopot)
Christie were the first Western rock band to play in
the Iron Curtain countries of the 70s.
They performed a set of three songs at the Sopot
song festival in Poland: Yellow River, San
Bernadino, and New York City. Their
show was screened to other communist countries,
and a recording of the live songs were released on a Polish flexi-disc.
The sound captured is very poor because of the cardboard-like material
used to make the discs, but in cases like this, the historical significance
of the songs far transcends the quality of the audio.
The songs are arranged slightly differently to the
studio recordings, and Mike Blakley's distinctive drumming is noticeable.
